Tips for a Better Prayer Life in 2021

Are you going through tough times? Does it feel like you are the only one facing so many hardships? What do you do then? Pray, isn’t it?

But have you ever struggled, not knowing what to pray for exactly?

Don’t worry, you are not alone.

If you find yourself in this situation, don’t hesitate to go through the list below.

#1. Praise God for Who He Is

For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.”

The first part of your prayer includes praising God.

Remember who you are praying to. You are not addressing any kind of spiritual force but to the creator of the universe and of the whole of mankind.

You are praying to Him because He is the only one who can answer your prayers. In His immense compassion and with His mighty power, He is the only one who can protect, guide and provide for you.

An Example of How to Start:

“Dear God, I come in your presence and with all my heart and soul, I give you praise for you are the creator of this universe. You are my father, my savior and my redeemer. You are the mighty God, I praise you for who you are.”

#2. Thank God for What He Has Done

No, this is not the same as praising God.

In the above, you praised God for who He is and for His wonderful creations. But, now, you will thank Him for what He’s done for you. Just as God expressed His love for us by giving His Son as a sacrifice for mankind’s sin, similarly, you should express your love and gratitude towards God by thanking Him with all your heart.

An Example of How You Might Pray:

“God, I thank you for bringing me into this world. I thank you for every breath I take. I thank you for holding my hand and guiding me. I thank you for sending Jesus Christ to die on the cross for me. I thank you for each and every second you demonstrated your love for me.”

#3. Pray That You Remember God’s Love and Grace for You

“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.”

When you are walking with God, it is very easy for your life to be turned into a lot of dos and don’ts only. Out of fear, you won’t commit adultery and to be on the side of grace, you will follow God’s commandments and try not to go against them at all.

Now, I am not saying these are not good, but you will be more living a rigid and monotonous life without experiencing the completeness of God’s love for you.

Remember that God saved you because He loved you. And, Jesus also suffered because He loved you too. So, you should also remember God’s love for you as it is like a gift that you won’t obtain anywhere else.

When you are praying, you shouldn’t do it out of fear or just because you need to. But rather, because you want to go nearer to God and want to experience the fullness of His love.

How to Pray:

“Dear Lord, please help me remember your love and your sacrifice for me. Help me remember how you saved me. How you broke all the chains in my life and set me free. Help me understand and accept your never-ending love.”

#4. Ask for Forgiveness

Prayer, Bible, Christian, Folded Hands, Religion

I personally think this is the most important step. Yes, we know through our faith in Jesus Christ, we are saved. But, as a Christian, note that there’s still one thing that can separate you from God’s love and grace: sin.

Small or big, sin is sin. And, nobody is perfect enough to say they didn’t sin. However, what you should do is to repent to God.

Here’s How You Should Ask for Forgiveness:

“God, I come to you to ask for forgiveness. Please forgive me when I sinned against your word and your commandments. I confess my sins to you and repent with all my heart.”

Our prayer list is not done yet. If you are looking for a guide to powerful prayer, you can explore the second part of this article, which will come out very soon.
